"What about the outfits?"
Way to really honor the effort these three-time Olympians have put forth to represent the USA. Great coverage, NBC.

John: But now there's this whole sort of catch-and-release policy—
Tom: Yeah, I believe in that.
...
Tom: Well, I believe in catch, put in your pants, and release.

Tom: So where do you hook this bait?
John: Through the eyes.
Tom: Oh, jeez.
John: ... Want me to do it?
Tom: Yeah, why don't you do it. He's already looked at me.
Tom: I can't do it now, we have a relationship.

goldman: “It’s an audiotape the New York Police Department hoped you would never hear. A building superintendent at an apartment complex just off the Rutgers University campus called the New Brunswick Police 911 line in June 2009. He said his staff had been conducting a routine inspection and came across something suspicious. “What’s suspicious?” the dispatcher asked. “Suspicious in the...

onthemedia: [The Kissing Robot] is supposed to be a means of maintaining a sense of intimacy when two people are separated by distance, translating a person’s signature kissing style into something that can be transported and delivered to a recipient—provided both sender and recipient are comfortable mugging down with a giant egg. (via Popular Science) A) this is terrifying B) I’m...

Going to try and unplug for the weekend.
Digital camera is fine. Phone calls and texts are okay. Email only if absolutely necessary. No games, no Google Maps, no Tumblr, no Twitter, no Foursquare, no Facebook, no RunKeeper, no iTunes, from when I step on the ferry to Block Island to the moment I get back to Point Judith. Here’s how I’ll occupy my time instead: books newspapers crosswords old New Yorkers guitars folk...

Dark Knight ending (spoilers of course)
[[MORE]]Pretty much just a direct Iron Giant ripoff, right? That and Superman’s bit in one of the Frank Miller books? Also I thought they had the balls to kill him and the emotional heft of the scene was cheapened when they didn’t. Lots of other problems with the crafting of this film, but I enjoyed it and I’ll definitely see it again, hopefully in IMAX.

marielikestodraw: The medias are talking a lot about hero Sally Ride passing away (and what a phenomenal woman she was indeed, wow), but none of them are mentioning that the woman who shared her life for 27 years, Tam O’Shaughnessy, will get no widow benefits from the States like astronauts’s spouses usually do. Because gay. Lesbian is still an ugly word, eh?
